Arvin Davis, Jr. "!!!Mayday!!!" in Gallery II

Join us for a Closing Reception on Friday, April 30th, from 7 - 8:30 PM

Arvin K. Davis Jr.  is 34 years old, a husband and father of 3

Arvin Davis Jr. is known for his use of bright colors, strong brush strokes, detailed line work, and paint and ink splatters; it’s a controlled chaos.

When it comes to inspiration, the sky's the limit; from past European masters, to the impressionism and expressionism movements of the early 1900s, surrealism, hyperrealism, imaginative realism; the list may never stop. But more than anything collaborating with his kids has become his inspiration.

He works in mixed media, predominantly: watercolors, inks, fluid acrylics, and standard acrylics.  At the start, either his children or he uses purposeful mistakes, the uncontrolled can add to and excite the imagination, picture starting out with a rough sketch then working it out smooth. Honing in on an idea, manipulating the idea until the rhythm is maximized. Nothing like palms and fingertips covered in pigment, no pair of pants free of marks, bliss.

A self-taught artist, Arvin has created everything from concert flyers for touring acts, event posters, album artwork to traditional animation, moving into Illustrator and designing video games. “Why limit yourself? The more eclectic, more enjoyment."

The relinquish of control within the chaos allows him to further explore his overwhelming inner monologue as he gets sidetracked, becomes emotionally invested, but also relishes in the mode of creating even though from the outside in you may even ask him if he enjoys art. He does, he lives for it.

As a sufferer of PTSD, the art allows for him to make tangible the emotions, traumas, self-created pressure over something as irrelevant as being late. Artistic expression allows him to comfortably, and in safety, explore the mental darkness that holds him. The uncontrolled seems so lovely when a fear of losing control is ever present, exposure therapy.

His goals for the future involve a large-scale collaboration show/ oversized book. 50 visual artists and 50 literary artists, all unknowing of the topic or subject matter of the others. The advancement of the work all rests in the hands of the interpreter. The artists involved will be included from his local hometown Minot, North Dakota, coast to coast and international artists. He is also working diligently on a more community fueling non-profit program based upon the efforts that art, or creativity, isn’t just beneficial but crucial to maintaining quality mental health. The program’s focus will be on our growing youth, at little to no cost to those individuals. Providing quality art supplies, educational material, studies, studio time. Teaching the youth how therapeutic and empowering self-expression can be.

Carol Fielhaber "Inquisition" in Gallery I

Join us for an artist reception on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 7 - 8:30 PM

“The woman who challenges herself to invent herself daily displays sublime creativity.” -Maya Angelou

Carol Fielhaber was born and raised in the Bismarck, North Dakota area. She had a desire to make art from a very young age. After high school, she received a Graphic Art Degree from Bismarck State College. She then worked as a graphic designer for KFYR and Myer Broadcasting in Bismarck, ND. She married and lived in South Dakota for 5 years, when she and her husband Bill moved to Minot and have lived there since. Carol received an education and art education degree from Minot State University when her youngest child started school. She taught art in the Minot Public School system but went home to heal from illness that arose. She later spent time as gallery director and art instructor at Minot State University. In 2013 after a life of knowing she would one day create art and many years of waiting and longing, Carol had a vivid and profound revelation that it was time. She found an art workshop 1500 miles from home and immediately signed up. After 5 days that would change her life, Carol came home and has been painting ever since. Carol’s family is most important to her and says they are a large part of what makes her heart beat. She and Bill have 2 children and now 3 grandchildren. Carol works in their family business when she is not making art and is grateful to have the opportunity to be productive in life and the world of art. She appreciates her family and community support.  Carol is inspired by and continues to study the era, lives and works of the first artists of impressionism, expressionism, cubism and abstract expressionism movements.

The spirit and purpose at the heart of my work is to encourage not only myself, but others as well as societies, communities and cultures to be empowered to take ownership of and to grow their own experiences that helps them be whole and validated from within. I know that my images, concepts, and perspectives, all come from a woman’s point of view, but I also realize that the struggle to be whole and validated belongs to all of mankind. I want to create art that will inspire the spirit of truth, honesty, and resilience.

My subject matter ranges from figures, feelings, messages to abstractions. I am inspired by life, the feelings that come from experiencing everyday life, nature, good conversation and uplifting events. I use acrylic, and multi-media. When in my studio I feel the excitement of something undiscovered, continually searching concepts, styles and mediums. I draw, paint, paste, scrub and look for happy accidents. I like to write verse around each of my creations and those are usually included in my exhibits. Viewers often speak to me of how they are moved or inspired by my written thoughts expressed and that feeds my own heart. I feel like my art journey has just begun. I learn and change with every stroke of my brush, fingers, charcoal, pen, pencil, and twig…
