March is a busy month at the James!  The Annual Board of Directors show takes place March 1-15 along with a sale of photography by Admin. Monica Tininenko.

The Annual Camera Club and Woodworkers show will be March 18-26!

January 3-31 North Dakota Student Art Show

North Dakota Student Art Show

Many young Williston-area artists participate in the annual North Dakota Student Art Show. The winners selected from among 2016’s 765 statewide entries will be shown in galleries around North Dakota. The exhibit will be on display Jan. 1-31 at the James. An artists’ reception is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 13 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. 

The Williston elementary, middle, and high school students whose artwork will be displayed include Sami Hammeren– Spotlight Award, Elizabeth Leko– People’s Choice Award, Kaylee Pitman (Williston Middle School); Katie Matlock (Williston High School); Ashley VanBerkom-2 pieces selected (Trinity Christian School); Brooklynn Kitchens (Lewis and Clark Elementary School); and Hayden Krieger (McVay Elementary School).

Honorable mentions also go out to two other young Williston artists: Scout Graham, whose art piece at Kids Day Out won a Beau Theige original guitar, and Kat Canerdy, whose art piece inspired by the James’ 2016 Mexican Cultural Art Class won “Best of Show” at the North Dakota State Fair.

December 1-30 "Art 50!"

"Art 50!" is an exhibit celebrating 50 years of the North Dakota Council on the Arts.  The exhibit is presented by the North Dakota Council on the Arts, North Dakota Art Gallery Association, and Starion Bank.  

50 artists, plus the curator, have one piece on display for the touring exhibit, and one on display at a stationary exhibit at the Heritage Center in Bismarck.

Artist Bio: Britt Dalice 

Artist Britt Dalice was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  She currently resides in Fargo, North Dakota.  Ever since she was young, she has had a passion for art, and she pursued her education in art at Concordia College and Minnesota State University of Moorhead.
 
Working primarily in oil paint, she uses both the traditional brush and the palette knife to apply paint to the canvas.  Her inspiration comes from the beauty of animals and the landscapes of nature.  Her work was recently featured at “TAG: The Art of Giving” and City Hall in Grand Forks. 

Artist Statement: Britt Dalice
My art is inspired by the beautiful colors I see in the elements of nature.  When I look at trees, I see not only green, but also reds, blues, yellow, oranges, and purples.  My goal is to translate all of these colors onto the canvas in a way that creates a multi-dimensional work for viewers to enjoy both up-close and from a distance.
I begin all of my paintings by applying a thin layer of oil paint to the canvas with a traditional brush.  Painting in only Burnt Sienna (a reddish-brown), I form the entire image.  Following this, I introduce subdued colors to the painting with the brush.  Finally, I take my palette knife and apply a thick layer of pure color to the image allowing the colors to mix directly on the canvas.   
Each time I apply paint to a canvas, it allows me to express how I see the world.  I love sharing the beauty and majesty I see in nature with my audience.
