Erica Thune's "Translations"

Erica Thune’s exhibit entitiled, “Translations” is on display at the James Memorial Art Center through the month of October. Erica is an artist based in Bismarck, ND. Erica states, “I often connect poetry with my pieces. The feelings and emotional connections encountered when I am creating a piece is the essence of my work. I want people to feel-eliminate numbness. I explore the chaos within-heartbreak, euphoria, jealousy, intimacy, solitude, rage, melancholy, romance, rejuenation, nostalgia, etc.”

Autumn Spooktacular Community Juried show in Gallery II

The Autumn Spooktacular Community Juried show is on display at the James Memorial Art Center in Gallery II throughtout the month of October. An Artist Reception will be held on Wednesday, October 9th 7-8:30pm. We invite all artists who entered into the Autumn Spooktacular exhibit to invite your family and friends to join us for an evening to chat about art and enjoy some refreshments. We encourage the community to attend as well, free and open to the public!! There are tons of entries and the community is full of very talented artists! Some pieces are even for sale! Make sure you stop in to vote for your favorites in both the Youth and Adult categories to win the People’s Choice award.

Mack Schroer's "A Year in Williston"

Mack Schroer’s exhibit entitled, “A Year in Williston” will be on display in both galleries at the James Memorial Art Center September 2nd through September 29th. Mack is a Set Designer, Truckstop Doodler, Portrait Painter and Graphic Illustrator. Mack has kept busy this year. Mack found his calling on a ranch in Berryton, Kansas through comic books. His love for visual narrative evolved in storyboarding, animation, graphic design and illustration, Mack has been awarded over twenty design and web awards by the Kansas Press Association for his work at the Osage Country Herald-Chronicle newspaper. Mack is currently an independent artist, exploring new avenues through multi-media. Join us for an Artist Reception for Mack on Friday, September 6th 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the James Memorial Art Center.

Minot State University's "Women's Point of View"

This exhibit showcases a selection of work by women artists represented in the Minot State University Permanent Art Collection. While the exhibition ranges greatly in medium and style, it is unified by groupings of common themes: portraits, scenes from nature, pop art, and abstract works. The Minot State Art Department began a focused effort to develop a Permanent Art Colection in the early 1970’s and the Arts Center now manages a collection of over 1200 pieces. The Women’s Point of View is just one of many exhibits from their permanent collection.

Roxi Mathis' "Gas Bubble in Eye"

Roxi is a watercolor artist living and working in Minot, ND. Her current work is based on the experiences she had during three eye surgeries and the recovery that followed. “Dealing with a detached retina caused light distorations and patterns in my vision, so I combine these with real and imagined insporation. I like to work in detail with a lot of color and bold contrast, forming loose patterns based on the visual anomalies that I see. While much of my work includes North Dakota scenery, I also work with figurative elements. I try to tell stories that lead the viewer to find their own narrative.”

Roxi Mathis’ Artist Talk & Reception will be on Friday, July 12 starting at 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Come hear Roxi talk about her art and how her eye surgeries changed the way she sees the world. Dive in to her beautiful work and enjoy some light refreshments. Free and open to the public

On display in GII the month of July are some pieces of Bob Miller’s work from the James’ permanent collection.
