Out Loud at The James

Calling all acoustic musicians, storytellers, comedians and poets!  This night is for you!  Join us every third Friday of the month from 8 to 10 p.m. Bring your poems, songs, and jokes and share with a welcoming crowd of your neighbors and friends.  Enjoy the atmosphere as we turn Center Stage into a hip coffee house! There is no entry fee, however, donations are welcome.

Historic Window Repair and Restoration Fundraiser

Update:  We have exceeded our goal to raise $2,500 by March 15th!  Deep gratitude to all who donated-  the outpouring from the community has been humbling and we are very thankful!  Through donations and grant funding, we now have the finances to cover costs for half of the project.  Below is information if you would still like to donate!

The James has been working to raise funds to repair and restore the windows in our main gallery.  In an effort to help cover the expenses required to restore these historic windows, the Board of Directors is requesting donations.  If you feel moved to make a contribution, checks can be brought to the office at 621 1st Avenue West  from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday; or mailed to the James Memorial Arts Center, P.O. Box 1714, Williston, N.D. 58802. Please make your check payable to JMPS with a notation of "Window Fund".  We thank you for your consideration in helping us with our mission of "Preserving History, Promoting Art"! 

Disney Trivia

Join us on Friday, March 23rd starting at 7:00 p.m. for Disney Trivia!  Brush up on your Cinderella knowledge for a chance to win prizes and bragging rights!  We are accepting 3 person teams and the fee is only $30.00.

Artist Reception ~ Austin Proctor's, "Spirits"

The James Memorial Art Center's Annual Members Meeting

On Sunday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m., the James Memorial Art Center will be hosting it's Annual Members Meeting.  Please join us to learn about upcoming projects, events, and gallery shows and to vote on topics of interest.  Must be a member to attend. 

Small Works Juried Show

The James is hosting a small works juried art show.  The exhibition is open for public entries and we are excited to see all the talent Williston has to offer! 

This show will run during the month of May in Gallery II with an artist reception on Friday, May 4th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Awards include Best of Show, First Place, People's Choice, and Honorable Mention in adult and youth categories.

$50 cash prize for Best of Show ~ Youth and Adults.

Artist Talk and Reception with Mark Holter

Please join North Dakota artist, Mark Holter on Friday, June 1 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the opening reception and artist talk about his show, "Layers of Identity".  Mark is a graduate of Minot State University and served in the U.S. Navy for ten years.  He recently discovered painting as a form of self-expression.  His works are abstract and explore the different layers that make up who we are.  Mark describes us as imperfect, messy, and fascinating.  

This event is free and open to the public.

Artist Talk and Reception with Kim Whittemore

Be sure to join us on Wednesday, July 11 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the opening reception and an artist talk with Minot digital artist and illustrator, Kim Whittemore.  Her exhibition, "What's Your Story?" will be on display in GI at the James from July 2 through the 31.  Kims career as a graphic designer in Minneapolis led her to develop a passion for illustration and photography.  Her work combines these elements to create whimsical and joyful works of art.

"Art is a vehicle for me to express my imagination without boundaries. My hope is that the viewer of my art is able to step out of their reality for awhile and smile."

Bob Ross Paint and Wine Night

On Saturday, July 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. we will be hosting a Bob Ross Paint and Wine Night! Please join WSC Art Instructor, Lino Azevedo as he guides you through painting happy little trees in Bob Ross' signature style!  But this paint night has a twist- not only will we be voting on the best Bob Ross painting, but we will also be voting on the best Bob Ross!  That's right!  Dress up as this beloved artist and you just may win a prize!  This is a fundraiser ~ all profits will go directly to the James. Tickets are $50 per person and include, wine, appetizers, and all art materials.  We only have space for 16 guests, so please call the James ASAP to register! 

Must be 21 or older to attend.
